Like many of his peers in the late 1950’s, Ron Fraedrick dreamed of owning and operating an excellent hometown business. Ron, a The Second World War Navy veteran, understood the dedication and sacrifices required to make a dream reality. So, with a passion to succeed driving his efforts, he went about building the foundation for what is one of today’s leading Mexican fast-food enterprises.
After graduating from your University of Oregon in 1959, Taco Time Restaurant through the entire West selling petroleum products to some rapidly growing post-war economy. It was in Los Angeles that he first fell in love with Mexican food and conceived the thought of feeding an alternative kind of hunger; one which involved preparing and serving their own kind of fresh, high-quality Mexican fast food to the hordes of hungry college kids back in his hometown, Eugene, Oregon.
To finance his dream, Ron did what most young entrepreneurs have to do – he mortgaged the family unit home and borrowed yet another $5000. Which had been in 1959, and then in 1960 his dream became reality when he opened his first walk-up TacoTime restaurant alongside the University.
TacoTime CultureRon spent many evenings concentrating on his secret seasoning and hot sauce recipes to develop an ideal taste profile. He would mix and measure just the right quantity of spices right into a 55 gallon barrel, rolling it around within the car park to thoroughly blend all of the flavors, then portioning the mixture into paper bags. Later, when Ron opened his second restaurant, he bought a electric cement mixer to provide mixing muscle.
For the take-away orders, the new made hot sauce was poured into little plastic cups, and so the staff would cap each with a tight-fitting lid. TacoTime HistoryIn fact, that’s the history behind the very first TacoTime franchised restaurant.
